St. Cyr, Underwood Join Spartan Hockey

Michigan State hockey coach Adam Nightingale has announced the addition of goaltender Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) and defenseman Michael Underwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

The pair of Michigan-born players join the Spartan roster after four-year collegiate careers. Underwood played four seasons at Clarkson University, while St. Cyr played three at Notre Dame before spending the 2021-22 campaign with Quinnipiac University.

We are excited to add these players to the Spartan family for next season," said Nightingale. "They lend some experience to our lineup and a perspective of playing in different leagues. Before Notre Dame, Dylan [St. Cyr] played for the US National Team Development program and has a number of international tournaments under his belt. Dylan is a winner, and he's going to help impart what that takes in our locker room. Michael had a great run with Clarkson and also participated in some US National Camps before he went to college, so he's also had an opportunity to grow in that environment. I'm looking forward to them joining our team when we begin later this summer."

2021-22 (Graduate student, at Quinnipiac) : Appeared in 13 games and started 11 for the Bobcats, Posting a 1.16 GAA and .936 save percentage, warning a 10-2-1 record with five shutouts … In ECAC games, went 4-0-0 with three shutouts, boasting a 0.25 GAA and .986 save percentage, allowing just one goal over 240 minutes … Made his Bobcat debut with a 2-0 shutout victory over Vermont with 14 saves (10/16) … Made 16 saves in a loss to North Dakota (10/23) … Recorded 19 stops in a 5-2 victory over AIC (10/26), his first of nine straight victories … Backstopped QU to a 2-1 OT win over American International in a rematch four days later (10/30), making 14 saves … Posted a 15-save effort in a 5-2 victory over Arizona State (11/13) … Earned a second shutout with nine saves in a 5-0 win over LIU (12/11) … Started the new year with a 18-save victory over Dartmouth, earning an assist in the game as well (1/16) … Made a season-high 24 stops in a shutout of Princeton (1/26) … Stopped 22 pucks in a 3-2 overtime win over Sacred Heart (1/29) … Earned back-to-back league shutouts of Dartmouth (2/18)) and Colgate (2/26), making 12 and 19 saves, respectively … Came on in relief in the NCAA regional final game vs. Michigan, making four saves and surrendering one goal in 17:51 of action.

2020-21 (Senior, at Notre Dame) :   Finished his Notre Dame career with a 16-12-2 record in 33 games (30 games started) with a .923 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average, with five shutouts … Academic All-Big Ten … On the season, played in a career-high 22 games, posting an 11-9-1 record to go along with a .921 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average … Started 15 of Notre Dame's last 16 games of the season beginning with a 2-1 win at Minnesota (1/16), posting a .933 save percentage and a 2.21 goals against average over that span … Posted his first shutout of the season with 20 saves in a 3-0 win over Ohio State (12/ 12) …. Recorded a season-high 39 saves in Notre Dame's 5-5 comeback tie at Wisconsin (2/20) … Earned Big Ten Second Star of the Week honors following back-to-back shutouts of Michigan State (2/26-27) where he stopped all 27 shots he faced in game one and then turned around and totaled 29 saves in game two for his second and third shutouts of the season and the fourth and fifth shutouts of his Irish career … Named B1G Second Star of the Week after a weekend sweep of Penn State to close out the regular season (3/5-6), stopping 75 of the 78 shots he faced for a .962 save percentage to go along with a 1.56 GA over the series.

2019-20 (Junior, at Notre Dame):   Academic All-Big Ten … Did not play in a game.

2018-19 (Sophomore, at Notre Dame):   Academic All-Big Ten … Completed his sophomore campaign with four wins, 157 saves, a 2.02 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage … Made his first start of the season at Omaha (10/ 19) and stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced to earn the victory, 4-1 … Made 29 stops in a 6-2 win at Michigan (11/10), In his first home start of the season, posted a 33-save shutout in a 3-0 victory against RPI (12/ 1) … Stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced to earn a 5-2 win over Wisconsin (2/ 16).

2017-18 (Freshman, at Notre Dame):   Played in five games, starting four … Owned a .917 save percentage, stopping 133 of 145 shots faced … First career start came against Alabama Huntsville, a 4-0 decision (10/7) … Against top-ranked Denver, made 46 saves in a 2-2 tie (10/13).

2020-21 (Junior, at Clarkson):  Played in all 22 games for the Knights...Collected a goal and 2 assists....+5 rating.

2019-20 (Sophomore, at Clarkson): Provided steady play in Clarkson's end as a stay-at-home defenseman, posting a team-high +10 plus/minus while skating in all 34 games ... Third on team in blocked shots with 40 ... Tallied two assists ... Set up a goal in 5-1 victory at Union (11/8) in ECAC Hockey opener ... Recorded an assist in 2-0 win at St. Lawrence (2/8) ... Named to ECAC Hockey All-Academic team and as an AHCA Krampade Scholar All-American.

2018-19 (Freshman, at Clarkson): Had a steady rookie campaign on the Clarkson blueline skating in 38 games … Tallied two goals and four assists ... Posted a +5 plus/minus and 42 blocked shots - 4th highest on the team … Netted game-winning goal and one assist in 5-1 victory at Union (1/11) … Set up two scores in 6-2 non-league win over St. Lawrence in Lake Placid (11/24) … Last point was a goal in 5-3 victory at 5th-ranked Quinnipiac (2/23) ... Named to ECAC Hockey All-Academic team.
