Ava Cook Called Up to U-23 Women’s Soccer National Team

The former Spartan All-Big Ten selection will travel to Sweden for a pair of games.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State women's soccer player Ava Cook has been selected to join the United States U-23 team for upcoming international friendly matches.
The team will travel to Sweden at the end of June to face Sweden and India's U-23 teams. Cook is the first Spartan to see national team action since Bria Schrotenboer played for the U-20 national team in 2019.
Cook currently plays for the Chicago Red Stars, where she has currently played in eight matches, starting four. She was selected in the first round by the Red Stars in December. The forward scored her first professional goal against the San Diego Wave on May 15. She is currently leading the league with three assists.
Hailing from Battle Creek, Michigan, Cook played her first four years of collegiate soccer with Grand Valley State University under current MSU head coach Jeff Hosler. During her time at Michigan State, Cook led the team in the regular season in goals (7), assists (3), points (17), and game-winning goals (3). She ranked second in the Big Ten in shot attempts with 70. With 27 shots on goal and 1.69 on-target shots per game, she ranked fourth in the conference.
Cook was named second-team All-Big Ten and received United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
