Hurtig Added to Spartan Roster for Fall '22

East Lansing, Mich. -- Spartan coach Adam Nightingale has added Viktor Hurtig (Avesta, Sweden)) to the Spartan roster for the 2022-23 season.
Hurtig, a 6-6, 191-pound Swede drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 NHL entry draft, adds size to the Spartan defensive corps. He is the 11th player additions to the Spartan roster for next season, which is comprised of six freshmen (including Hurtig), four graduate transfers, and one transfer student-athlete. The group includes six forwards, four defensemen, and one goaltender.
"We are excited to add Viktor to our back end," said Nightingale. "Hurtig's size, skating and ability with the puck will help our team. We look forward to him helping our team along with continuing his development towards a professional career.

Prior to College: Drafted by the New Jersey Devils (6th round, 164th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft … Finished the 2021-22 season with the Växjö Lakers, playing 25 games and scoring four goals (11 points) … Also played 25 games with a 2-4-6 scoring line for Mora IK … From 2018-2021, played with Västerås IK … Three-year player for Avesta BK (2015-18).
Personal: Son of Maria Glad and Mikael Hurtig … Has one older brother, Albin … Graduated from Widenska gymnasiumet in 2018 … Was a Detroit Red Wings fan as a youth … Enjoys Masterchef Sweden and enjoys cooking and fishing.
