B1G Announces 2022-23 Hockey Slate

The Big Ten has announced its slate of 2022-23 hockey games, which once again finds the Spartans lining up with some of the most talented teams in the nation.

The Spartans boast a non-conference slate which opens with five out of six games played at Munn Ice Arena – a home-and-home with Bowling Green (Oct. 7-8) and home series against UMass-Lowell (Oct. 13-14) and Long Island University (Oct. 21-22).

Head coach Adam Nightingale gets his Big Ten debut at Notre Dame (October 28-29) before hosting Wisconsin (Nov. 4-5) and Ohio State (Nov. 10-11) in back-to-back weekends. The Spartans will make a trip to Penn State (Nov. 18-19) before a non-conference series at Miami the weekend after Thanksgiving.

MSU will open December with a home series against 2022 regular-season champion Minnesota (Dec. 2-3) and wraps its pre-holiday action with a home-and-home with archrival Michigan, hosting the Wolverines on Friday Dec. 9 and playing in Ann Arbor on Dec. 10.

The Great Lakes Invitational will be contested in Grand Rapids for the first time in December, and the Spartans will take on Ferris State in the first round on Tuesday, Dec. 27 for the right to advance to the championship game against either Michigan Tech or Western Michigan the next day.

2022-23 schedule

Conference play resumes for the Spartans the first weekend in January, kicking off the second half of the Big Ten conference schedule. MSU opens 2023 at Ohio State (Jan. 6-7) and hosts Penn State (Jan. 13-14) before a bye weekend, and then heads to Minnesota for a rematch with the Gophers Jan. 27-28.

MSU is the team with a bye in the final regular-season weekend this year, and has three games at home and three on the road within the month of February. Notre Dame comes to town to kick off the final regular-season month of games (Feb. 3-4), and the Michigan State-Michigan rivalry is rekindled the following weekend with a game at Munn (Feb. 10) and the annual game in Detroit for the Duel in the D (Feb. 11). The Spartans will wrap their regular season Feb. 17-18 at Wisconsin.

The Big Ten Tournament will be contested over the first three weekends in March, with the quarterfinal best-of-three series scheduled for March 3-5. Semifinals (March 11) and the Big Ten championship final (March 18) will also be held on campus sites, hosted by the higher seed.

Gametimes and television designations will be announced closer to the start of the season. Season tickets are on sale for the 2022-23 campaign at MSUSpartans.com.
