Spartans & Boilermakers to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
East Lansing, Mich. – After two road games last week, Michigan State's men's basketball team returns to the Breslin Center for a pair of Big Ten Conference games, starting with a matchup against No. 3 Purdue on Monday, Jan. 16 (2:30 p.m., FOX). Both MSU and Purdue will wear distinctive shirts to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The game will air live on FOX, with Jason Benetti and Bill Raftery calling all of the action. The TCF Bank Spartan Media Network radio call can be heard on one of 38 affiliates and on the web at MSUSpartans.com, with Will Tieman handling the play-by-play and Matt Steigenga serving as the color analyst. The game can also be heard on channels 381 on SiriusXM and channel 971 on the SiriusXM app.

Spartans & Boilermakers to Wear Distinctive Shirts to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- Michigan State and Purdue will wear distinctive warmup shirts during the game on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
- The shirts, which say "WE HAVE MADE OF THIS WORLD, THE NEIGHBORHOOD, AND NOW THROUGH OUR MORAL AND ETHICAL COMMITMENT, WE MUST MAKE OF IT A BROTHERHOOD" were a joint collaboration by both schools.
- The shirt was designed by the Michigan State creative team and will be worn by both programs on Monday in honor of Dr. King's legacy of service.
- Throughout the game on Monday, there will be several moments to recognize the work and impact of Dr. King ... The University will also hold a march on the morning of Jan. 16 where several MSU students, student-athletes, faculty and staff will participate.
- Michigan State has won seven of its last eight games and enters the game on Monday with a 12-5 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in Big Ten play.
- The Spartans, who played one of the nation's toughest schedules in the country to open the season, has faced the 10th-toughest slate of opposing offenses in the country and ranks No. 10 overall in strength of schedule, per KenPom.com.
- Through 17 games, senior guard Tyson Walker leads the team in scoring with 13.9 ppg, while adding 2.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
- Graduate forward Joey Hauser is second on the team in scoring with 13.6 points per game and leads the team with rebounds with 8.0 per game, while shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 40.3 percent from 3-point land.
- Junior guard A.J. Hoggard is third on the team with 12.0 points, fourth with 4.0 rebounds and leads the team (and is 3rd in the Big Ten) with 6.2 assists per game.
- Hoggard is one of two Division I players in the country averaging at least 12.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 6.0 apg (Penn State's Jalen Pickett).
- Senior forward Malik Hall, who missed eight games but returned to the rotation against Buffalo and has played the last five games, is fourth on the team with 9.9 ppg and third with 4.1 rpg.
- Three other players are averaging at least 5.6 points.
- Sophomore guard Jaden Akins, who scored a career-high 15 points against Oakland, is adding 8.2 points and 3.5 rebounds.
- Junior forward Mady Sissoko, who scored 9 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against Oakland, is averaging 6.2 points and is second on the team with 7.0 rebounds.
- Sophomore Pierre Brooks II, who has started five games, is averaging 5.6 points and 2.5 rebounds.
- Freshman center Carson Cooper played a career-high 13 minutes at Illinois, finishing with six points, four rebounds and one block.
- Purdue enters the game on Monday with a 16-1 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Big Ten following a 73-55 win at home over Nebraska on Friday night.
- The Boilermakers, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, have won three-straight games since Rutgers handed them their lone loss of the season, 65-64, on Jan. 2.
- Purdue is 4-0 on the road, including 3-0 in the Big Ten, with wins at Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State.
- Junior center Zach Edey is second in the Big Ten in scoring (21.3 ppg) and leads the league in rebounding (13.2 rpg).
- Freshman guard Fletcher Loyer (13.2 ppg) is the younger brother of former MSU guard Foster Loyer.
- When Michigan State and Purdue play on Monday, it will be the 130th meeting in program history.
