EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's soccer midfielder Regan Dalton garnered weekly accolades as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and earned an honorable mention spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week, both organizations announced Tuesday.Â
Dalton is the first Spartan to earn national weekly honors this season and first since current junior Jordyn Wickes landed a spot on the TDS National Team of the Week on Nov. 11 last season. She becomes the third MSU player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season, following Emerson Sargeant and Bella Najera's selections on Sept. 26, and first to earn a Defensive Player of the Week nod. Both awards are the first of Dalton's career. Â
The Rockford, Michigan, native notched a pair of assists in MSU's 3-2 win at then-No. 14 Michigan on Oct. 7, registering an assist on Wickes' opening goal before adding another on Wickes' second goal of the night in the second half. The pair of assists brought her total to four this season, all coming in the last three games. She ranks third on the team in total assists this season. The Spartans' win at Michigan was the first over a ranked team this season and first in Ann Arbor since Oct. 21, 1994.Â
Dalton has had a breakout season in the Green & White in 2023, making starts in all 14 games for the Spartans as a defensive midfielder. Her 967 total minutes rank third among all field players on the team. Â
The Spartans are 9-3-2 (4-1-1 B1G) this season and sit in a three-way tie for second in the league standings. MSU stays on the road for a pair of matches this week, traveling to Indiana on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. before facing Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.Â
