East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team closes out the fall campaign when it hosts the 10th Annual Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational this weekend at Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament runs starts on Sunday, Oct. 15 and concludes on Monday, Oct. 16. The 16-team field will play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday. Teams will tee off in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. both days.
"There is no better way for us to wrap up our Fall season of competition than by bringing teams to play at Quail Valley," Head Coach Casey Lubahn said. "We're proud of what this tournament has become and I know the teams that come down here really enjoy it. Quail Valley Golf Club is one of the best clubs in America and what the staff has done, not only for our program, but every team that comes down to play is pretty special. SPARTAN NOTES
The Spartans won the Quail Valley Intercollegiate twice – 2015 and 2016 – in the nine-year history of the tournament and had runner-up finishes in 2017 and in 2022. After the tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kansas won in 2021, firing a 35-under par 289 (277-271-281), and North Florida led from start-to-finish in 2022, finishing at 39-under par 825. Michigan State set a program record in last year's final round, firing a 23-under par 265. Drew Hackett led the way with an 8-under par 64 (tied for the best single round in program history) on the way to a program-best 16-under par 200 as he finished in second place.
LUBAHN'S THOUGHTS
"We know where we are after a pretty rough Fall season. This program has high expectations and we had a great start to the season at the Folds of Honor early last month, but we have not put it together in the last three events. The Quail Valley Collegiate is a special event for us and we've played well here in the past. I'm hoping that our guys will come out with a determination to finish the season strong and that we can carry that over to the Spring."
