Coen Carr Selected to Julius Erving Award Watch List

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball freshman Coen Carr was one of 20 players selected to the 2024 Julius Erving Award Watch List, which recognizes the top small forward in the country.
The award recognizes the top small forwards in Division I and is named in honor of Julius Erving, a 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional.
Carr is the second Spartan to earn a preseason honor from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as graduate Tyson Walker was selected to the Watch List for the Jerry West Award, which recognizes the top shooting guard in the country.
The 6-5 freshman made his college debut in MSU's 85-43 exhibition win over Hillsdale College on Wednesday night, scoring 12 points, grabbing three rebounds and blocking two shots in 15 minutes.
The No. 1 recruit in the state of South Carolina by 247Sports and On3 Sports, Carr was the No. 25 ranked player in the country in the ESPN100 coming out of high school. Selected to play in the 2023 Iverson Classic, Carr was a member of the USA Basketball 3x3 U18 World Cup Team and was invited to the 2022 USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds beginning Friday, October 27. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2024 Julius Erving Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Erving and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.

Michigan State plays its second exhibition game before the start of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 29, hosting No. 9 Tennessee at the Breslin Center (3:30 p.m., BTN). All proceeds from the game will benefit the Maui Strong Fund, following the wildfires in Hawaii in August.
