Softball Announces 2024 Signing Class

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball head coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley announced the addition of eight student-athletes in the 2023-24 signing class on Wednesday.
Ava Coffinger (Richland, Mich.), Carsyn Cassady (Pataskala, Ohio), Ella Cunningham (Cleveland, Tenn.), Hannah Herman (Buchanan, Mich.), Jacey Schuler (Antioch, Ill.), Jordan Credeur (Georgetown, Texas), Natalia Kenyatta (Madison, Ala.) and Sophia Holverstott (Byron Center, Mich.) will join the Spartans next season.
Michigan State's recruiting class ranks No. 23 nationally via Extra Inning Softball and is ranked second among current B1G programs (Northwestern, No. 21). Coffinger, Schuler and Kenyatta all ranked in the EIS Top 100.
Hannah Herman
MIF/OF | Buchanan, Mich. | Beverly Bandits - Conroy

Herman prepped at Buchanan High School in Buchanan, Mich. where she was a three-time All-State, All-Region, All-District and All-Conference Selection. Herman hit .471 with 47 RBI last season as a junior to earn her third consecutive All-State selection.
Hannah is a versatile, athletic player with a large upside. She can play the infield and outfield and is an ultimate team player. She'll bring grittiness to our program that Spartan fans will love to watch.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Ella Cunningham
LHP | Cleveland, Tenn. | Fury Platinum

A 2023 Tennessee state champion, Cunningham is a two-time All-State selection (2022, 2023) and was the region MVP as a junior. Also a three-time All-District first team selection, Cunningham threw a no hitter for Silverdale Baptist Academy in the state tournament last season.
Ella is a two-way athlete that plays with a ton of passion. She's a lefty pitcher that can make an impact both on the mound and in the batters box. She's a tough player that exemplifies the Spartan Way.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Jordan Credeur
1B/OF | Georgetown, Texas | Texas Bombers

A Texas state runner-up in 2022, Credeur was a breakout performer for Georgetown High School last, one of the top teams in Texas, earning All-District honors. Credeur set new career-bests across the board as a junior, improving her career marks in runs, hits, RBIs and home runs.
Jordan is an athlete that adds a powerful bat and a high softball IQ to our program. I love that she plays with an undeniable swagger and confidence. She'll bring high-level playing experience to our program.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Jacey Schuler
RHP | Antioch, Ill. | Illinois Chill Gold

Schuler will bring a laundry list of accomplishments with her to East Lansing next season with one more year of high school softball still to play. An Illinois state runner-up in 2023, Schuler has twice been named the Dailey Herald Player of the Year and the News-Sun Player of the Year. A two-way player, Schuler went 19-2 with a 0.80 ERA and 270 strikeouts in 147.1 innings last season while also hitting .541 with nine home runs and 63 RBIs. Schuler was named a Second Team NFCA All-American in 2023.
Jacey is a two-way player that can make an immediate impact on our program. She is the ultimate competitor in the circle that isn’t afraid to go at hitters. Jacey can swing a big bat on offense and could be a presence in the heart of our lineup.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Sophie Holverstott
Catcher | Byron Center, Mich. | Finesse Fastpitch

One of the top catchers in the state of Michigan, Holverstott comes from the Finesse Fastpitch club that has produced numerous Spartans throughout the years, including current student-athletes Ava Mullen, Sam Sutton and Britain Beshears. Holverstott has earned All-Conference, All-District and All-Region honors throughout her interscholastic career and was an All-State honorable mention in 2023.
Sophie is a strong, powerful athlete with a big bat. She can hit with power to all fields and is a steady defender with a plus arm behind the plate. She plays with a ton of confidence and is a great leader on the field.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Carsyn Cassady
RHP | Pataskala, Ohio | Thunder Elite

Cassady is a Max Preps Pitcher of the Year in Ohio and a three-time All-State selection. A state runner-up last season, Cassady is a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and was the Columbus Metro Player of the Year. As a junior, Cassady went 20-1 with a 0.68 ERA with 198 strikeouts in 112 innings pitched (23 starts).
Carsyn is a power pitcher with swing-and-miss stuff. She has the ability to keep hitters off balance with the mixture of high velocity and change of speed. She'll be exciting for Spartan fans to watch for years to come.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Ava Coffinger
OF | Richland, Mich. | Tennessee Mojo

A finalist for the 2023 New Balance Golden Shoe award, Coffinger is on pace to rewrite the MHSAA record books during her senior season. As a junior, Coffinger went 73-for-73 on stolen base attempts and currently boasts a streak of 79 consecutive steals. Coffinger was a First Team All-State selection in 2023 and was named a Max Preps All-American in addition to earning First Team NFCA All-Region honors. At Gull Lake, Coffinger already owns the single-season records for most stolen bases and runs scored. Her 86 runs scored as a junior ranks third all-time in Michigan high school history.
Ava will bring a ton of speed to our program. She has the ability to put a pressure on defense and steal a lot of bases. I love the way Ava plays, and she is a Spartan through and through.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
Natalia Kenyatta
C/UTL | Madison, Ala. | D1Vision 18u National

Kenyatta ranks as the No. 68 overall player by Extra Inning Softball. Last season Kenyatta batted .495, scoring 50 runs on 49 hits with a .574 on-base percentage an a 1.442 OPS. Kenyatta was named a Class 7A All-State honorable mention and was the MVP of the AHSAA state All-Star game.
Nat very steady behind the plate. She is a catcher that pitchers love to throw to and she can steal strikes in any part of the zone. Offensively, Nat has great bat to ball skills and has the ability to be one of our most consistent bats in the lineup.Head Coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley
