EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head volleyball coach Leah Johnson announced the addition of former First Team All-Conference USA middle blocker Amani McArthur on Monday. McArthur joins the Spartans as a graduate transfer from Charlotte.
McArthur, a 6-3 middle blocker, is a native of Summerville, South Carolina. McArthur is a three-time All-Conference USA selection and was named to the First Team in 2022. Last season McArthur ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division I with a .399 hitting percentage, racking up 214 kills on 419 swings from the middle. Defensively, McArthur posted 113 total blocks (1.18 blocks per set) on 38 solo and 75 assisted stuffs. All of which would have led the Spartans in the middle last season.
Amani is a perfect fit in the Spartan culture. She’s a natural connector as well as a mature and experienced competitor. She will immediately impact our gym with her strengths as a shutdown blocker with an explosive arm.Head Coach Leah Johnson

In her four years in Charlotte, McArthur appeared in 87 matches and made 63 starts, becoming a consistent starter for the program as a sophomore. McArthur earned Second Team All-CUSA honors as a sophomore and junior before breaking onto the first team as a senior.
I chose MSU because it felt like a family right from the beginning. The energy in the gym was amazing and something I knew I wanted to be a part of. I am excited to join and contribute to a new culture!"Middle Blocker Amani McArthur
McArthur joins setter Cameron Berger, defensive specialist Makya Clayton, middle blocker’s Zuzanna Kulig and Kaya Hood, and outside hitter’s Karolina Staniszewska and Taylah Holdem as newcomers for the Spartans in 2023.
