East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's golf completed its first day of play at the Redhawk Invitational in University Park, Wash. at the Chambers Bay Golf Course.

MSU shot an 11-over par 579 (290-289) on the par-71, 6,989-yard course and sits in sixth place in the field of 17 teams.

Idaho leads the field at 10-under par 558 (282-276), while Northern Colorado is in second place at 3-under par 565, Cal State-Fullerton and host Seattle University are tied for third place at 7-over par 575 and Oregon State rounds out the top-five teams at 9-over par 577.

Senior Bradley Smithson shot a 1-over par 143 (71-72) and is tied for 12th place to lead the Spartans.

Senior Drew Hackett and junior August Meekhof are tied for 29th place with scores of 4-over par 146. Hackett shot a 1-over par 72 in the first round and closed with a 3-over par 74, while Meekhof opened with a 4-over par 75 before finishing with an even-par 71.

Sophomore Ashton McCulloch is tied for 36th place at 5-over par 147 (72-75) and fifth year Troy Taylor II is tied for 40th place at 6-over par 148 (76-72).
