Spartans Eighth at Big Ten Championships

Michigan State concluded its 2023 rowing season on Sunday with an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis.
It was the final racing day for MSU's four graduate or fifth-year students and three seniors on this year's roster – Emily Carless, Kendall Carlin, Ella Kubas, Victoria Mills, Mackenzie Rugg, Molly Stothard, and Olivia Tolkinen.
Michigan won the team title in addition to gold-medal finishes in the varsity eight, varsity four, and second novice eight races,
The top finishing entry for the Spartans was its novice eight which finished fifth in a time of 7:06.151, a length ahead of Rutgers which was clocked in 7:10.845. MSU also held an open water margin better than Iowa and Minnesota. MSU's second novice eight was sixth in its race, six seats behind fifth-place Rutgers in a time of 7:22.812. MSU had a length on seventh-place Iowa at the finish.
The Spartan third varsity four (7:57.710) also found itself with a length lead at the finish over Minnesota and open water over Wisconsin. The varsity four was seventh in its race in a time of 7:43.124 to post an open-water margin over Minnesota, and the second varsity four was six seats back on the Gophers for eighth place in a time of 7:58.575.
MSU's varsity eights both earned eighth-place finishes – the V8 was in a time of 6:40.953, and the 2V8 was in a time of 7:05.387.
