The Spartans will face four teams that reached the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head coach Damon Rensing announced the Spartans' 2023 schedule on Thursday.
MSU will take on four teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season, including Big Ten foes Rutgers, Maryland and Ohio State, along with Indiana, who made the College Cup final, falling to eventual champion Syracuse.
"We are really excited about our 2023 schedule. It has just about everything a top Division I program would want in a schedule," Rensing said. "Playing in one of, if not the best college soccer conference in the Big Ten presents awesome home and away matches. Our schedule also includes regional rivalries, in-state rivalries, and a trip to the east coast to play at West Point and Villanova."
The Spartans will host nine regular-season games at the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium. Michigan State ended last season third in the nation in attendance, averaging 2,364 fans per game, which was also first in the Big Ten.
"DeMartin Stadium has proved to be one of the best men's college soccer environments ranking No. 3 in attendance last season. We can't wait to see the community and especially our Red Cedar Rowdies student section back in DeMartin in 2023," Rensing said.
Michigan State begins preparation for the season with a pair of exhibitions on the road against Purdue Fort Wayne (Aug. 12) and Pittsburgh (Aug. 18). The Spartans will open the regular season with a duo of home games against Loyola-Chicago (Aug. 24) and Bowling Green (Aug. 28).
MSU opens September on the road traveling to Army on Sept. 1 and Villanova on Sept. 4. The Spartans will open B1G action at Big Ten Tournament champion Rutgers, before hosting Indiana on Sept. 22. Michigan State will be away from the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium for four of its seven games in September.
As the calendar changes to October, MSU will host Penn State (Oct. 1), before traveling for a pair of games. The Spartans will travel to Wisconsin on Oct. 6, before the annual Battle for the Big Bear game against Michigan on Oct. 10. The road doesn't get any easier for the Green and White, as they take on Big Ten regular-season Maryland at DeMartin Stadium on Oct. 15. The Spartans will close out B1G play at Northwestern (Oct. 20) and at home against Ohio State (Oct. 24). MSU will close out the regular season against Drake on Oct. 27.
The Big Ten Tournament will begin action on Nov. 3.
