
Two Spartan Rowers Post Strong Efforts at U23 World Championships

East Lansing --Â A pair of Spartan rowers represented their home nations at the recent World U23 Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.Â

Rising sophomore Anna Drnkova (right) finished third in the B final (ninth overall) in the lightweight women's single, sculls, improving her time in each of her four races over the event and clocking a 7:54.78 in the B final on July 23. She was fifth in the semifinals the day prior (8:00.51), and shaved significant time off in the B final, where she was just under a second behind the rower from Denmark.Â

Drnkova spent her freshman season in an NCAA boat, mostly in the bow of the Spartan varsity four.Â

Incoming freshman Ugne Rudaitye (left) competed in the open single sculls for Lithuania, and took fourth place in the C final (7:59.61). She took fourth place in her opening heat (8:21.40) and repechage (8:12.94), and earned her spot in the C final by clocking an 8:38.28, open water over the fourth-place finisher. Rudaitye will enroll at Michigan State this fall. Â
