Spartans Host Eagles in In-State Matchup Thursday

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State women's soccer (3-1-0, 0-0-0 B1G) returns home to face in-state foe Eastern Michigan (0-2-2, 0-0-0 MAC) on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
FIRST TOUCH
MSU enters Thursday's match at 3-1-0 after going 1-1 on the road last week in Colorado. The Spartans topped Northern Colorado, 7-0, on Aug. 24 before suffering their first loss of the season at Colorado, falling 2-0, on Aug. 27.
In the Spartans' win at Northern Colorado, junior forward Jordyn Wickes scored her first hat trick in the Green & White, breaking MSU's record for fastest-recorded hat trick (seven minutes and 19 seconds). Senior forward Ranya Senhaji also scored a brace in her first start as a Spartan.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan is led by 25th-year head coach Scott Hall, who holds a 209-205-63 record during his time in Ypsilanti. The Eagles are looking for their first win of the season after going 0-1-1 on the road last week. EMU battled to a 2-2 draw at Dartmouth on Aug. 25 before dropping a 3-1 contest at Northeastern on Aug. 27. In its first two games of the season, EMU tied St. Bonaventure at home and fell to Oakland on the road.
Junior forward Meagan Lukowski (2 goals) and freshman forward/midfielder Kate Robinson (1 goal, 2 assists) lead the Eagles in scoring, while Lukowski leads in goals and Robinson leads in assists. Redshirt freshman Ella Holland has started all four games in goal for the Eagles and posts a 0.619 save percentage.
STORY OF THE SERIES
Thursday's match will be the  19th all-time between the two squads. MSU holds a 14-1-3 edge in the series, dropping its only contest to the Eagles at home on Sept. 3, 1999. MSU and EMU last met on Aug. 22, 2021, with the Spartans recording a 3-0 victory in East Lansing. The Spartans hold a 10-1-0 record against the Eagles in East Lansing and will look to extend their unbeaten streak at home against EMU to 10 games.
Current junior Jordyn Wickes and current senior Zivana Labovic added assists in MSU's 3-0 win during the 2021 season.
