EAST LANSING, Mich. – Cecily Charles named B1G Co-Freshman of the Week following a career day with 14 saves against Ohio State. Charles joins Emma O'Neill to become the second Michigan State player to earn conference player of the week selections this year.
Charles shares the award with Ohio State's forward Brenna Bough.
The Millersville, Pennsylvania, native made crucial stops against the Buckeyes, including a penalty stroke at 13:11 in the fourth quarter. Charles career day tied for the most saves in a game at Ralph Young Field (Molly Cassidy had 14 saves also against Ohio State, in 2011). Charles' 14 saves were the most in a game for MSU since 2019, when Jade Arundell had 15 against Michigan.

Charles is the first Spartan to earn B1G Freshman of the Week since teammate Ellie Rutherford in 2021. This is the first time that MSU has multiple Players of the Week in the same season since, Jenni Smith and Katherine Jamieson in 2013.
Charles and MSU will continue Big Ten play as they host Indiana University on Friday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.

This penalty shot save by CC Charles is nothing short of clutch to keep things scoreless in the fourth quarter. pic.twitter.com/XPDnLPYqg6
