Name: Kur Teng
Year: Freshman
Position: Guard
Height: 6-4
Weight: 190
Hometown: Manchester, N.H.
High School: Bradford Christian Academy (Mass.)
What do you want to do after you graduate and why?
If I'm not playing basketball, I'd want to stay involved in sports, maybe in sports medicine or some way where you're taking care of your body. Definitely something in sports.
Why did you choose Michigan State?
I would say the family atmosphere and the culture here. Everything about this place fit me perfectly, the coaching staff and everything. From what I expected when I came here to when I got here, it's the same as I thought it would be, even better. Just getting to know the coaches and the players and everyone here, it's been great.
What would you tell someone who is coming to Michigan State to play basketball?
Be ready to compete. At all times. And be ready to be coached hard and just come ready to play.
If you could play another position, what would you play and why?
I'd say point guard, mainly so I could have the ball in hands all the time.
If you could play another sport, what would you play and why?
I'd definitely say soccer, because that's what I played growing up. I really like Ronaldo so I'd say I'm a Real Madrid fan too.
If you could have dinner with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
That's a good one. I'd say LeBron James, John Cena and Elon Musk.
Do you have a favorite form of social media or person to follow?
Probably Instagram, mainly just to follow people, but I also like to check out some funny videos and memes.
Favorite sport to follow at Michigan State other than yours (or what sport are you excited to see?)
Definitely football. I see how the atmosphere is and how crazy everyone goes, with the tailgates and stuff. I've been able to check out soccer games and that's been fun.
What song is on your headphones in the locker room right before taking the court?
Not any one song in particular, but probably rap to get me turned up and ready for the game.
What is your dream vacation?
Somewhere on a beach with my family, just kickin' it.
What's the best thing about getting to play Big Ten basketball?
Every game is going to be a challenge. It's going to be great games and I'm ready to compete at the highest level.
I think the competitiveness part of it. I'm excited for how competitive this league is and how every second matters.
What's the best way to describe Coach Izzo?
He's definitely going to coach you hard. Competitive. Assertive.
One word to describe a Michigan State basketball player?
Dawg.
Who would play you in a movie?
My brother would (Kuany).
Tell us one thing people don't know about you?
A lot of people think I'm from Massachusetts, but I'm from Manchester, New Hampshire. My family is originally from South Sudan and they came here in 2004, the year right before I was born.
