Calling all Spartans, we need you to donate blood for MSU. MSU students, faculty, alumni and friends can help saves lives and bring home $1 million to East Lansing. Here is your opportunity to help.
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, MSU is holding an on-campus blood drive as part of the conference-wide competition, "The We Give Blood Drive," an initiative from global healthcare company Abbott and the Big Ten.
Here's why – the United States is currently experiencing the largest blood shortage in a generation.
Blood shortages affect everyone: families during emergencies, mothers during complicated childbirths, people undergoing cancer treatments or those who need complex surgeries.
"'The We Give Blood Drive' is a great opportunity for Spartans to save lives, while showing their school spirit," said Alan Haller, vice president and director of athletics, Michigan State University. "Sign up today and join the Michigan State community, the Big Ten Conference, Abbott and fan bases across the conference as we come together to help tackle the current blood shortage in the United States."
This highly visual, on-campus blood drive is part of a competition between the 18 Big Ten Conference schools. A $1 million prize is on the line for the winning university to advance student or community health. Spartan students, alums and fans can help give the school a boost on the leaderboard.
