The redshirt-junior is one of 44 collegiate players invited to participate.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer redshirt-junior Zac Kelly was one of 44 collegiate soccer players invited to participate in the adidas Major League Soccer's College Showcase.
Taking place in San Diego, California, from Dec. 11-14, the Showcase will give all MLS teams an opportunity to scout top collegiate prospects in the nation, which will include players with remaining NCAA eligibility. The four-day talent evaluation event will give technical staffs from each MLS club a chance to scout top collegiate prospects in the nation ahead of MLS SuperDraft 2025, which will take place on Friday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.
"I am really happy for Zac to have this opportunity," MSU head coach Damon Rensing said. "Zac has worked extremely hard these last couple years both on and off the field. This is a culmination of both his hard work and ability, combined with having the platform of the MSU Soccer program and the Big Ten! I am excited to see Zac showcase his skills to the MLS teams. I would also like to congratulate assistant coach Nick Barry, who is our goalkeeper coach, and works with Zac and all the GK's on a daily basis. "
Kelly, a native of Holt, Michigan, had a stellar redshirt-junior season for Michigan State. He was the first Spartan to earn B1G Goalkeeper of the Year since Jimmy Hague in 2017. He was the sixth Spartan player to earn Player of the Year Honors with the last being Giuseppe Barone, who won Midfielder of the Year accolades in 2018. Former Spartan netminder and current assistant coach Reid Friedrichs did earn Big Ten Player of the Year honors in 1996.
The Spartan goalkeeper also captured first-team All-Big Ten honors for the first time in his career. Kelly started all 17 games this season allowing only 18 goals for a 1.06 GAA. He ended the season with seven shutouts. The seven shutouts were the most by a Spartan since Hague had nine in 2018.
The 2024 adidas MLS College Showcase is a closed-door scouting event officially sanctioned by the NCAA. The eligible player list for MLS SuperDraft 2025 will be announced at a later date following the 2024 adidas MLS College Showcase.
