East Lansing, Mich. --Â Sophomore Luca Di Pasquo (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week after his performance at the Great Lakes Invitational (Dec. 29-30).Â
Â
Di Pasquo, making his third and fourth starts of the season, earned his second consecutive shutout with a 16-save performance against Northern Michigan (2-0) before posting 29 saves in a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Western Michigan in the championship game. Di Pasquo was named the Tournament MVP with just one goal allowed over 140 minutes.Â
Â
Di Pasquo has, for the second consecutive season, backstopped MSU to a strong performance in the holiday tournament. Last year he stopped 48 of 52 shots faced in a win and a tie (with the Spartans losing the GLI title in the shootout to Michigan Tech). With Spartan starter Trey Augustine aiming for a third consecutive medal at World Juniors with Team USA, Di Pasquo has proven he is more than up to the task.Â
Â
On the season, Di Pasquo has made four starts for MSU with a pair of shutouts. He boasts a 0.50 GAA and .975 save percentage, and he has not allowed a goal five-on-five – the only goals he has allowed (to Canisius and Western Michigan) were on the power play. Overall, he has stopped 77 of the 79 shots he has faced in those four games.Â
Â
Di Pasquo and the top-ranked Spartans have a quick turnaround this week, hosting Wisconsin at Munn Ice Arena on Thursday (6:30 pm, BTN) before heading to Chicago for the Frozen Confines game against the Badgers at Wrigley Field on Saturday.Â
