Smith Collects Big Ten Specialist of the Week Award

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Michigan State sophomore gymnast Nikki Smith earned Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honors, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

Smith collects her second Specialist of the Week award of the season and fifth overall for the Spartans. MSU has earned nine weekly conference awards in 2024, the most by any school.

The West Bloomfield, Michigan, native competed on three events at the Big Five Meet on Feb. 23, helping MSU to its third-straight Big Five victory and an undefeated conference record to win back-to-back Big Ten regular season titles. She scored a 9.975 on vault, earning a 10.000 from one judge to win the event title, and followed with a 9.900 on bars before clinching the win for MSU in the fifth spot on floor with a 9.850.

Smith ranks eighth on vault and floor and fourth on bars in the Big Ten this season.

MSU hosts New Hampshire for the Spartans' annual Breast Cancer Awareness meet on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
