• Michigan State readies for a pair of games against archrival Michigan this week.  The Spartans look for a second straight win at Yost Arena on Friday, and then take on the Wolverines on Saturday in the annual Dual in the D game at Little Caesar's Arena.  The teams will play games 345 and 346 in the all-time series this weekend, and UM owns a 180-140-24 edge all-time.  The teams each won on enemy ice when they met back in January.  Â
•  MSU earned its third straight split of a Big Ten series last weekend, falling 4-1 at Notre Dame on Friday and rebounding with a 4-0 shutout win on Saturday.  Saturday's shutout victory was MSU's third clean slate of the season, and all three shutouts have come in road games.  With 18 victories, MSU has matched its win total from 2022-23.  The 18 wins is MSU's most since 19 in 2011-12 (MSU's last NCAA tournament bid),  Â
•  The Spartans currently hold down the top spot in the Big Ten standings with 40 points, five ahead of second-place Wisconsin (35) and 11 ahead of third-place Minnesota (29).  MSU's B1G record is 12-4-2, the most league victories for the program since the start of the league in 2013-14.  The Spartans finished second in the B1G in 2014-15, but MSU has not finished better than fifth place in any other year.
• The Spartan penalty kill was a perfect 8-for-8 at Notre Dame and has extinguished 16 of 17 chances against over the last two weekends. MSU's PK is is at .818 (99-of-121), which is third in the Big Ten.  MSU's seven shorthanded goals is tied for the highest total in the country.  It is the most shorthanded goals for MSU since the 2002-03 campaign (10).  MSU's power play is operating at .265 (22-of-83) on the year (second B1G, fifth nationally).  The Spartans have a power play goal in 19 of 28 games, and seven of the last nine.  In fact, MSU's two power play goals at Notre Dame were the only two scored in the six Big Ten games last weekend. Â
•  Freshman Trey Augustine stopped 57 of 60 shots he faced in the two-game series at Notre Dame, allowing three goals and earning his third shutout of the season.  He has started 25 games this season, with a .914 save percentage, 2.99 GAA, and 16-6-2 record.  Despite missing time with World Juniors, he ranks fourth nationally in saves (779), seventh in winning percentage (.708) and third in shutouts (3) among D1 goalies.  All three of Augustine's shutouts this season have not only come in Big Ten conference games, but all three have also come on the road (at Ohio State, Penn State, and at Notre Dame.)  No other netminder in the Big Ten has more than one shutout in league games this season.
 Â
•  Karsen Dorwart is the only Spartan with points in each game last weekend in South Bend.  He assisted on Isaac Howard's goal on Friday, and then started off MSU's scoring on Saturday.  He is fourth on the team in points (24) and tied for second in goals (11, T-13 B1G), and his 11 goals surpassed his freshman season of 10.  Among his 24 points is a goal and six assists on the power play in addition to two shorthanded markers.  Â
