Spartans and Mastodons now meeting Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball's scheduled game vs. Purdue Fort Wayne has been moved up to Tuesday, March 19 instead of Wednesday. First pitch is still slated for 4:05 p.m. at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field.
Cold temperatures in the forecast for Wednesday forced the schedule adjustment.
MSU enters Tuesday's tangle with the Mastodons with 7-10 record after winning the three-game series with Evansville over the weekend. The Spartans won Friday's home opener, 11-3, before a 5-3, 11-inning loss Saturday afternoon, but then bounced back to win Sunday's rubber match, 6-5.
Purdue Fort Wayne brings an 8-13 overall record and a 2-1 Horizon League ledger in tow to East Lansing for Tuesday's match-up. The Mastodons are also coming off a series win, taking two of three from Youngstown State in their Horizon League opener. YSU won Friday's opener, 4-2, before Purdue Fort Wayne erupted for a 13-3, 7-inning run-rule route on Saturday, then the Mastodons stomped the Penguins, 18-5, on Sunday.
Michigan State and Purdue Fort Wayne are meeting for the third-straight year meeting after not facing off since 2004 prior to 2022's game. Prior to 2022, the four previous meetings were in consecutive seasons (2001-04). MSU had won five straight meetings, before PFW collected its first win in the series last season, 3-2, on April 19, 2023, in a rain-soaked game at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field.
