Michigan State Finishes in Fifth Place at the Clemson Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Paced by three golfers finishing among the top-25 overall, Michigan State's women's golf team finished in fifth place among 16 teams in a highly competitive field at the Clemson Invitational, played at the Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
The Spartans shot a 6-over par 294 in the final round and finished with a three-day, 54-hole score of 4-over par 868 (290-284-294).
Vanderbilt topped the field with a score of 12-under par 852, with Texas A&M second in 6-under par 858 and LSU third at 3-under par 861. Host Clemson placed fifth at even-par 864 and the Spartans rounded out the top-five teams.
Final Results
The Spartans were led by junior Katie Lu, who tied for 10th place at 2-under par 214 (71-71-72). Lu finished at even par 72 in Sunday's final round.
Senior Leila Raines shot a 2-over par 74 in the third round and tied for 16th place with a three-round score of even-par 216 (72-70-74).
Sophomore Shannon Kennedy was the third MSU golfer among the top-25, tying for 24th place at 2-over par (72-71-75), including a 3-over par 75 on Sunday.
Junior Brooke Biermann tied for 54th place at 8-over par 224 (75-72-77) and sophomore Paula Balanzategui tied for 75th place at 15-over par 231 (78-80-73), including a 1-over par 73 on Sunday that was the team's second-best score of the day.
Michigan State closes out the regular season on Sunday, April 13 and Monday, April 14, playing in the Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
