East Lansing, Mich. --Â Michigan State freshman defenseman Artyom Levshunov (Zhlobin, Belarus) has been named a second-team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).Â
 Â
Levshunov has enjoyed a standout freshman season, where he was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while also earning a spot on the All-Big Ten first team and All-Freshman team.  selection as he skated on MSU's top defensive pair and was a Big Ten best +27 (13th nationally). One of the most prolific freshman defenseman scorers in program history, He compiled a 9-26-35 scoring line, two points shy of MSU's freshman defenseman scoring record (held by Jason Wooley and Pat Betterly) and tied for sixth in the Big Ten in assists and 11th in points.
Â
Among defensemen nationally, Levshunov ranks in a tie for eighth in points (second among freshmen defensemen), and tenth in both goals and assists.  A finalist for Tim Taylor Rookie of the Year honors,  he ranked 11th nationally among all freshman in scoring.
Levshunov is Michigan State's 57th all-time All-America selection and the first since Taro Hirose in 2019. He is the first Spartan defenseman to earn the honor since Torey Krug in 2012.
He is one of seven freshmen across college hockey to be named a 2024 All-American - there were also nine sophomores, six juniors, two seniors and two graduate students.
Â
Ranked second in the NHL Central Scouting mid-term rankings, Levshunov is projected as a top-10 pick at the 2024 NHL Draft.Â
