Rowing Wraps up Season Seventh at Big Ten Championships

BARABOO, Wisc. – MSU Rowing's season came to an end at the Big Ten Rowing Championships on Devil's Lake as the Spartans placed seventh out of eight conference teams, first-year head coach Stacey Rippetoes' team amassing 62 points.
Senior Lizzie Johnston, the Spartans' first varsity eight coxswain in each race this season, garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors for the second consecutive season while graduate student and fifth-seat rower Ella Kubas was Second Team All-Conference, as voted on by the league's coaches. Senior rower Carolynn Garner was MSU's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
"I'm very grateful to have worked for this 2024 team at Michigan State," Rippetoe said. "We had some ups and downs and I thought we showed some really gutsy racing. I'm really proud of the team for being willing to learn this year and being brave enough to give their best and see how it turned out."
Three Spartan boats finished in a team-high sixth place, including the marquee first varsity eight, which finished 15 seconds behind first place Michigan. Three MSU boats finished in seventh and one in eighth.
The national No. 9 Wolverines won the conference championship with 189 points. Michigan State bested the Iowa Hawkeyes, who finished eighth with 54 points.
17 MSU seniors graduate from the program with this the conclusion of the 2024 season.
