MSU Rowing Set for Sprints Sunday
5/4/2024 1:16:00 PM | Women's Rowing
WORCESTER, Mass. – MSU Rowing takes to the waters of Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. for the highly touted Sprints on Sunday, May 5.
It will be the Spartans' fifth race of the season under first-year head coach Stacey Rippetoe and second regatta in which they will compete in morning heats for shots at grand and petite finals in the afternoon.
At the historic Women's Sprints, out of each of the three loaded morning heats (two for the second varsity eight), just the top two finishers advance to the grand final in the afternoon and the ensuing others advancing to the petite final or third final. The third varsity four field is a one-and-done final race in the afternoon. There is no fourth varisty eight/second novice eight at Sprints.
Last time out in a dual with No. 16 Indiana, several Spartan boats finished just seconds from victory, once in a photo-finish that determined an MSU second-place finish by just seven tenths of a second as the Hoosiers edged the Green and White for the Dale England cup.
Seat changes include the return of senior Maya Elbaranes, junior Sabrina Gottschalk moving back into the first V8+, coxswains Ellise Flessland and Sophia Stauffer switching boats and sophomore Madisen Holtz moving up from the V4+ to 2V8+.
