Five Spartan Baseball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Five Michigan State baseball players were named Academic All-District, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Harrison Cook, Joseph Dzierwa, Dillon Kark, Nick Powers and Christian Williams were all recognized with 2024Â Academic All-District accolades.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in at least their second year as a collegiate athlete and be a starter or a key reserve, meeting minimum playing time requirements.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.Â
This is the first career Academic All-District honor for all five Spartans.
With five Spartans earning Academic All-District accolades in 2024, MSU has now had a total of 29 student-athletes earn Academic All-District honors in program history, including 20 under head coach Jake Boss Jr.Â
Cook, a senior pitcher from Solon, Iowa, made 12 appearances on the mound, making four starts, posting a 2-3 record in 36.2 IP, with 28 strikeouts and 18 walks, logging a 5.40 ERA. In the classroom, Cook graduated with a  3.647 GPA with his degree in communication.
Sophomore pitcher Dzierwa, a native of Haskins, Ohio, was second in the B1G regular-season in both innings pitched (84.0) and strikeouts (91), third in the B1G overall in WHIP (1.19), third in B1G only in IP (48.2), sixth in B1G only in strikeouts (43). He was also eighth overall in K/9 (9.7), ninth in the B1G overall in ERA (4.07) and tied for 14th in the B1G overall in BB/9 (2.9). Â Dzierwa had a 3.692 GPA in communication.
Kark, a senior infielder from White Lake, Michigan, tied for seventh in the B1G overall in doubles (17), tying with teammate Jack Frank. Additionally, Kark was joined by Frank and teammate Randy Seymour as the only three Spartans to start and play in all 51 games. Kark led MSU in RBI (42), while sharing the team lead with Frank for doubles (17), in addition to second in hits (71), tied for second in triples (1), third in slugging percentage (.466), fourth in runs scored (38), tied for fourth in home runs (4) and fifth in average (.324). Kark was the recipient of the MSU Scholar-Athlete Award at the Spartan Academic Excellence Gala for highest GPA on team, posting a 3.916 GPA working on his master's degree in strategic communication.Â
Powers, a senior pitcher from Flushing, Michigan, was sixth in the B1G in walks allowed per nine innings (2.46), also one of nine players in the league to toss a complete game, also tying for tops in the conference in games started (14) and third in the B1G in victories (7). Overall, Powers posted a 7-4 record in 14 starts with a 5.71 ERA in 80.1 IP, logging 65 strikeouts and 22 walks, with the Spartans' lone complete game of the season. In the classroom, Powers had a 3.597 GPA as an advertising management major, and will graduate in the fall.
Williams is a redshirt-junior catcher/designated hitter from Carmel, Indiana, and registered a .250 average in 46 games, logging eight doubles, three HR and 24 RBI, adding 28 runs scored. Majoring in kinesiology, Williams posted a 3.719 GPA.Â
