MSU Baseball’s Seymour Collects All-NECBL Accolades

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball player Randy Seymour earned All-New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) second-team honors, announced by the summer league on Friday.

Seymour played for the Newport Gulls, helping the Gulls to the NECBL championship last week, as Newport completed its back-to-back NECBL crown. The Spartan shortstop was one of 10 Gulls to earn All-NECBL recognition, as Newport led the league with the most selections.

In playing 34 games for the Gulls this summer, Seymour posted a .235 average with 31 hits, including eight doubles and one triple, with 11 runs and 20 RBI, adding four stolen bases and 11 walks. He logged eight multiple hit outings on the season, highlighted by going 3-for-4 vs. Keene (July 4), as well as 3-for-6 vs. North Short (July 9). Seymour posted five games with multi-RBI, boosted by four ribbies in his second game of the season, on June 5 vs. Vermont.

This is Seymour's second NECBL accolade of the summer, as he was also named to the NECBL All-Star Game, knocking a double.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat college summer league that fields teams in all six New England states. Partially funded by Major League Baseball, the New England League started play in 1994 and has sent over 230 alumni to the Major Leagues with nearly 30 alumni taken in the first round of the MLB Draft.
