
Spartan Men’s Cross Country Finishes 23rd at NCAA Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State cross country closed out the 2025 season at the NCAA Championships at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.
The Spartan men finished 23rd in the 10k race with 547 points. It was their best team finish since 2020 when Michigan State was 17th. In 2021, the Spartans finished 30th with 681 points. This season, was the first time the MSU competed as a team since 2021.
Freshman sensation Thomas Westphal led the way for the Spartans, finishing 59th with a career-best time of 29:19.0. Riley Hough rounded out the cross country season, crossing the line in 29:49.0 to finish 134th. The time was a season best and just off his career-best 10k time of 29:26.9 set at the Great Lakes Regional last season.
In his first collegiate 10k, Jasper Cane was the third Spartan to cross the line in 29:54.0 (143rd). Jack Pennewell was 163rd with a time of 30:04.8. Michael Hegarty was the final scorer for MSU with a personal-best time of 30:13.5 (173rd).
Oklahoma State captured the title on the men's side with 57 points. Habtom Samuel of New Mexico won the individual title in a time 28:33.9.
In the women's 6k race, Michigan State's lone runner was Rachel Forsyth, who finished 48th overall with a season-best time of 19:30.5. Her only better time was in the 2024 Big Ten Championship (19:26.2).
NC State won the women's title with 114 points. Doris Lemngole won the women's individual crown in 18:25.4.
