
Spartans Open Indoor Track & Field Season with Several Wins and Personal Bests

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track & field opened the indoor season with several event wins and multiple personal bests at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Michigan and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.Â
GVSU Holiday Open
Date: Friday, Dec. 5
On Friday, the Spartans had a solid showing for their first indoor meet of the season, winning 10 events. Logan Allen finished first in the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 7.77. Cameron Cheetam also grabbed first place in the 60m with a time of 6.79 with Jeremy Dixon finishing second in 6.81.Noah Sage took second in the 400m with a time of 48.73.
On the women's side, Elizabeth Anderson was sixth in the 200m, crossing the line in 25.11.
In the men's 3000m, Jasper Cane finished first with a PR time of 8:11.01, while Brady McArdle also had a PR, running in 8:12.51.Evan Loughridge was first in the 5000m, crossing in 14:29.97.
In the field events, Michigan State was led by Dillon Morlock who was first in the shot put invite (18.45m), while setting a new personal best in the weight throw (19.08m) to finish sixth. Dalton DeBeau took the weight throw title with a PR throw of 19.08m. Brady Schultz won the long jump (7.19m) with a new personal best, while Carter Bissell captured the long jump crown (7.19m).
On the women's side, the Spartans added two more titles in field events. Leila Barmore was first in the triple jump with a best jump of 12.61m. All-American Elle Adrian returned to form with a top finish in the weight throw (21.76m).
Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener
Date: Saturday, Dec. 6
In his collegiate indoor debut, Big Ten Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year Thomas Westphal was impressive. In the 3000m, he finished third with a time of 7:52.18. Tim Cherry had his first sub-4 minute mile in the open mile race. He finished first with a personal-best time of 3:58.93, topping his previous PR set last year at the Windy City Invite.
On the women's side, Rachel Forsyth had a strong debut in the 3000m. In her indoor debut, she finished 13th, crossing the line in 9:01.64.Â
Madison Osterberg was eighth in the open mile with a time of 4:47.87. In the mile invitational, Olivia Millen was fifth (4:38.40), while Sarah Forsyth was seventh (4:43.33). Both Millen and Forsyth set new career bests.
The Spartans will take a break for the rest of the month and return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.Â
