This Week In Spartan Athletics – February 12
Here's a look at the week ahead (Feb 12-17) for Michigan State Athletics:
Women's Basketball
No. 22 Michigan State hosts Wisconsin Wednesday at Breslin Center (6:30 p.m.). The Spartans then head west for a pair of games in Los Angeles, beginning with a Sunday night contest at No. 1 UCLA. The Bruins enter the week as the only undefeated team in the nation at 23-0.
Wrestling
Michigan State opens the week at No. 12 Rutgers on Friday. The Spartans then return home for a dual at Jenison Field House against No. 19 Michigan. It's the final home dual of the season for MSU and the last Big Ten dual of the year.
Baseball
Spartan baseball opens the 2025 season this weekend with four games in Cary, North Carolina. Michigan State opens the season on Friday against Western Michigan. Saturday, the Spartans play Monmouth in a doubleheader. The weekend concludes with a single game vs. Dayton. With predicted rain in North Carolina, the schedule is subject to change.
Men's Basketball
Saturday, the Spartans are back in action at Illinois. This will be the second meeting of the season between the Spartans and Illini, as MSU recorded an 80-78 win on Jan. 19.
Softball
For the second week in a row, it's a five-game weekend for Spartan softball as Michigan State travels to Athens, Georgia, to take part in the Red & Black Showcase. Friday, MSU opens with a late morning contest against Longwood before taking on host Georgia at night. Saturday, the Spartans battle the Bulldogs again, followed by another contest with Longwood. Sunday, MSU plays a single game against Western Carolina to wrap up the weekend.
Women's Tennis
On the heels of four straight home wins, Michigan State heads back on the road, traveling to Lynchburg, Virginia, for a pair of events. Saturday, the Spartans will square off against James Madison, followed by a Sunday contest at Liberty.
Women's Golf
No. 22 Michigan State is in action at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational Sunday and Monday in Sarasota, Florida. The event will be played at the Palm Aire Champions Course. Earlier this month, the Spartans finished fifth out of 18 schools in the Puerto Rico Classic against a field featuring 12 of the top 50 teams in the country.
Men's Golf
Men's golf takes part in first full tournament of the spring season beginning Monday (Feb. 17-19) at the Watersound Invitational. The tournament will be played at Sharks Tooth Golf Course in Panama City, Florida.
Track & Field
It's another split weekend for Michigan State Track and Field, as team members will be split across three meets, including the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational in Chicago (Feb. 14-15), the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston (Feb. 15), and the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan (Feb. 15).
