Split Squad Spartans Head to Three Track & Field Meets This Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. - This weekend, the Spartan track & field teams are splitting up to go and compete in three different meets. On the Feb.14, a group of Spartans will be in Chicago for the Badgers Windy City Invite, and another group will be in Allendale, Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet.

On Saturday, the Badgers Windy City Invite has its second day of competition and two MSU athletes will be at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Kate Stewart-Barnett and Rachel Forsyth are taking on the mile this weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The pair both earned personal records two weekends ago at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana where Forsyth finished second and Stewart-Barnett was right behind her finishing in third. Forsyth finished with a time of 4:34.02, which is a new U-20 Canadian record. The pair will run on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:45 p.m.

This race is one of many to watch this weekend as some of the best student-athletes from around the country are competing. The pair faces tough competition this weekend going up against some of the best athletes in the country.

The Badgers Windy City Invite
In Chicago, the Spartans will be taking on 12 other teams in the Windy City Invitational February 14-15. The throwers have a large showing at this meet, just one week after Elle Adrian broke the school record and took home first place in the weight throw (22.35m). Adrian will be competing in the weight throw again this weekend for the Spartans. Jessica Stieb who also broke her own school record last weekend at the Michigan Invitational will be competing in both shotput and weight throw this upcoming weekend.

With seven athletes in the 3000m, the distance squad is making a splash in their events this weekend. This event will be held at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center with action kicking off on Friday at 1:00 pm beginning with the Long Jump. The meet continues on Saturday, Feb. 15 beginning at 11:30 am with pole vault.

GVSU Big Meet
On Friday, Feb 14, the final group of Spartans will be heading to Grand Valley State for the GVSU Big Meet. Events will kick off at 8:30 am at the Kelly Family Sports Center, located in Allendale, Michigan. The day will begin with the men's 5000m at 8:30 am and close out with the men's 3000m at 8:15 pm.  The bulk of the Spartans in action at Grand Valley will be distance runners.

The Spartans will be back to competing all together next weekend at the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday, Feb. 21.
