Opening Statement...
I'm really proud of our team tonight. We knew what a big game this was, an opportunity was in front of us. My opinion, I think Indiana has been playing their best basketball, especially recently, coming off a really good win against Ohio State. So we knew the challenge at hand, and I thought our kids did a great job of executing our game plan really dialing in on the defensive end and finding a way to win when we didn't shoot the ball well which I'm proud of them for that. This is one that we have to appreciate, Indiana is a tough team and obviously we have a big week in front of us but proud of our group.Â
Â
On the rocky start and early timeout…
I actually thought we had a lot of good looks; we didn't make any of them. We even missed a steal and layup that turned into a three for them. So I didn't feel discouraged because I actually felt like we were getting really good shots and it's a long game. I also told them it's time to finish them, right like if we're getting them we have to be able to finish them. Then we got our home momentum going and actually did a good job finishing the first quarter with the lead.Â
Â
On perimeter defense containing Indiana…
Well it's so important, Indiana is arguably the best shooting team in the league they pretty much consistently have at least four kids on the court who shoot threes at a high rate so that was very important. We made two threes late which I actually felt like they really mattered, for us I worry less about them going in and more about are they good shots. At some point, you hope a few more go in but credit to our defense for holding strong and not relying on that, and still found a way to score 40 points in the paint so I thought our post players did a good job of getting some timely and needed baskets and we also did a good job of creating a little bit of havoc and being able to score off turnovers.Â
Â
On where the team can still grow for the rest of the season...
I mean offensively I think when we really get the ball whizzing around with some flow we can be even better on both ends. Also this time of the year, I think it shouldn't be underestimated how much all of us know each other. So the game is hard, the game is just a little bit more, and we say to dominate the details and that possessions matter and we just at this point know each other pretty well and know things that are important to each team, so you have to be stingy on the defensive end and on the offensive hoping to get more flow.Â
