Oriana Parkins-Godwin Earns Big Ten Player of the Week

MSU women’s tennis earns its first B1G honor of the season with Player of the Week for Parkins-Godwin.
EAST LANSING- Mich. —Michigan State women's tennis player Oriana Parkins-Godwin earned the Spartans' first Big Ten Conference honor of the season by being named Big Ten Player of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Parkins-Godwin had a strong performance at singles No. 6 against No. 44 Nebraska, coming back against Lucy Loy, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4.
This was the final point necessary for the Spartans to clinch the upset, earning themselves their first ranked win since the 2022-23 season when they beat No. 60 ranked Penn State.
Parkins-Godwin also went 1-1 in doubles play over the weekend with partner Issey Purser, winning at No. 2 doubles against Nebraska as well, giving the Spartans a lead towards the doubles point.
Overall, the redshirt-sophomore and first-year transfer went 2-1 in her matches over the weekend, earning herself the Big Ten Player of the Week title.
Nicknamed "OPG" by the team, Parkins-Godwin consistently shows up with a positive attitude and determination, adding a motivational presence to the team.
This serves as Parkins-Godwin's first Big Ten Conference win and first Big Ten honor.
MSU women's tennis competes at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center this weekend in a set of Big Ten Conference matches on Mar. 15 at 12 p.m. against No. 33 Penn State and Mar. 16 against No. 10 Ohio State also at 12 p.m.
