This Week In Spartan Athletics – March 18
Here's a look at the week ahead (March 18-24) for Michigan State Athletics:
Men's Basketball
On Selection Sunday, Michigan State was announced as the No. 2 seed in the South Region. The Spartans begin the NCAA Tournament Friday at approximately 10 p.m. vs. No. 15 seed Bryant in Cleveland, Ohio on TBS. The winner of the game will advance to play the winner of No. 7 Marquette vs. No. 10 New Mexico on Sunday (time TBA). This is the 27th straight NCAA Tournament for Michigan State, extending the nation's longest active streak.
Women's Basketball
Michigan State drew the No. 7 seed in the Spokane 1 region. In the first round, MSU will play No. 10 Harvard in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPNews. The winner will advance to Monday, to play the winner of No. 2 North Carolina State and No. 15 Vermont. MSU's No. 7 seed is its highest seed since 2016.
Hockey
Michigan State is back at No. 1 in the national polls. The Spartans will host Ohio State Saturday at
Munn Ice Arena at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is Sunday at 3 p.m., when the Spartans will learn who and where they are playing.
Gymnastics
No. 9 Michigan State will compete for a second straight title at the 2025 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday in Ann Arbor. The Spartans will compete in the Saturday night session along with regular-season champion UCLA, as well as Minnesota and Michigan. MSU captured the 2024 title as the host school in Jenison Field House. The Spartans are led by four First Team All-Big Ten honorees: Sage Kellerman, Skyla Schulte, Nikki Smith and Gabi Stephen.
Wrestling
Three Spartans will open action at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia on Thursday. Michigan State will be represented by Caleb Weiand (125 pounds), Remy Cotton (197 pounds), and Max Vanadia (heavyweight), who each earned their way into the national championships with their performances at the Big Ten Championships.
Softball
Michigan State hosts Oakland Tuesday in the home opener for the Spartans. The Spartans have played the first 20 games of the season away from Secchia Stadium. The homestand continues this weekend when MSU hosts Ohio State for a three-game Big Ten series, with single games on Friday (5 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
Baseball
Michigan State hosts Oakland Wednesday at Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium. The Spartans then travel to Penn State for a three-game series Friday-Sunday in State College.

Men's Tennis
The Spartans look to remain hot as they hit the road for a pair of Big Ten matches in the Hoosier State. Saturday, No. 29 MSU is at No. 57 Indiana, followed by a Sunday match at No. 47 Purdue. Michigan State enters the week having won five straight.
Women's Tennis
Michigan State travels out west for its first matches against new Big Ten foes USC (Saturday) and UCLA (Sunday). The trip to Los Angeles will provide more opportunities for wins against ranked opponents as USC is currently ranked No. 16 and UCLA is No. 24. No. 58 MSU has defeated a ranked conference opponent in each of the last two weeks.
Men's Golf
Tuesday, the Spartans close out play in The Johnnie-O at Sea Island. Next week, Michigan State will compete in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California.
