Men's Golf in First Place at Colleton River Collegiate

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 2-under-par 574 and sits in first place among 16 teams after the first two rounds of the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by the Spartans at Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Michigan State shot a 1-over 289 in the first round and followed with a 3-under par 285 in the second round.
The Spartans lead the field at 2-under par 574, with Kansas State second at 1-over par 577, followed by Chattanooga in third (9-over par 585), Wake Forest in fourth (11-over par 587) and East Tennessee State rounds out the top-five (12-over par 588).
Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili led the way for the Spartans, firing a 4-under-par 140 through two rounds, tying for second place with No. 81 Kristian Bressum of East Tennessee State and No. 100 Scotty Kennon of Wake Forest.
Junior Caleb Bond joins Pinili as the second Spartan to shoot under par with a 1-under-par 143, tying him for sixth place.
Freshman Drew Miller shot an even-par 144 through two rounds, notching his second under-par round of the season with a 1-under-par 71 in the second round. Miller sits in 10th place after Sunday's play.
Sophomore Lucas Acevedo is in a five-way tie for 15th place after shooting a 5-over-par 147. Acevedo recorded his first eagle of the season on a 548-yard, par-5 hole two in the first round.
Freshman Julian Menser stands in a tie for 55th place after shooting a 10-over-par 154. He finished his day strong with a 1-under-par 35 on the back nine in the second round.
Playing as an individual, freshman Juan Velasquez shot a 1-over-par 73, putting him in a tie for eighth among 15 individual golfers.
The Spartans will cap off the final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a split-tee start beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 1.
