Spartans in Fifth Place at Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California, sitting in fifth place among 14 teams.

Michigan State shot a 3-over par 291 in the first round and followed with a 4-under par 284 in the second round.

Tohoku Fukushi University of Japan leads the field after the first two rounds, shooting a 14-under par 562, followed by Santa Clara (7-under par 569), Nihon in third place at 6-under par 570, San Francisco in fourth place (2-under par 574), and the Spartans rounding out the top five at 1-under par 575.

Junior Caleb Bond sits in a tie for fourth place after shooting a 3-under par 141. Bond caught fire on the back nine of the first round, scoring birdies on three consecutive holes (14-16) and finishing No. 18 with a birdie. Bond registered eight birdies between the two rounds, raising his season total to 65. A second-round 3-under par 69 completes Bond's seventh under-par round of the season.

Freshman Drew Miller shot a 2-under par 142 on the day, putting him in a tie for seventh place. Miller equaled his season-high under-par rounds of two with consecutive 1-under par 71 finishes.

Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili is in a tie for 16th place after firing an even-par 144. Pinili collected six birdies on the day, raising his season total to 47.

Sophomore Lucas Acevedo shot a 4-over par 148 on the day, putting him in a tie for 32nd place. After shooting a 4-over par 76 in the first round, Acevedo finished the second round with an even-par 72 that included bogey-free play on the back nine.

Rounding out play for the Spartans was freshman Julian Menser, who sits in a tie for 53rd after shooting a 10-over par 154.

The Spartans will cap off the final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 25.
