3/27/2025
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head volleyball coach Kristen Kelsay officially announced the addition of transfer setter Malayah Long on Thursday. Long joins the Spartans from Marquette with four years of eligibility remaining.
I am fired up to add Malayah and her family to the Spartan volleyball program. I had the privilege of working with Malayah during her prep career, and anyone who has seen her compete can see that she plays the game with great joy. Her character, skill and physicality will make an immediate impact on our program.Head Coach Kristen Kelsay
The 6-foot-1 setter joined the Golden Eagles as a highly touted prep prospect out of Lincoln Southwest High School in Lincoln, Neb. where she was named VBallRecruiter.com’s National Senior Player of the Year after leading Lincoln Southwest to its first Nebraska Class A championship in 2023. A two-time team captain for the Silverhawks, Long was named captain of the Omaha World Herald All-Nebraska First Team and Lincoln Journal Star Super State First Team as a senior.
As a freshman, Long redshirted in 2024 where she trained with and learned from honorable mention All-American and Big East Setter of the Year, Yadhira Anchante.
Long played club volleyball at VCNebraska where she was team captain of the 18 Elite squad under head coach Blake Rawlins, garnering the ranking of No. 4 recruit in the state of Nebraska by Prep Dig. Kelsay previously crossed paths with Long in 2022 when she served as the associate director and recruiting coordinator at VCNebraska where she worked with the U16 and U18 Elite teams.
I chose Michigan State because of the people behind it all. From the very beginning, the coaching staff made me feel like more than just an athlete — they genuinely care about who I am as a person. They are people I know will encourage me to become the best version of myself every day I enter the gym. Coach Kelsay has been a constant source of inspiration. Her passion for the game, her belief in her players and the way she creates a positive, empowering environment are something I want to be a part of. I can’t wait to be a part of everything she’s building here at Michigan State!setter Malayah Long
