East Lansing, Mich. -- Spartan centerman Tiernan Shoudy (Marysville, Mich.) has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after the final regular-season weekend of the season.
Shoudy helped guide Michigan State to a second consecutive Big Ten title, the first two in program history and the only school other than Minnesota to accomplish the feat. Shoudy had a pair of goals, an assist, and two blocks in the two-game road series at Notre Dame, including two goals in the finale. It was the first two-goal game of his career.
The junior alternate captain is having a career offensive year - he has surpassed his previous career bests and has eight goals and 17 points on the season (+12). He is second among Spartan forwards in blocked shots (19).
The Spartans earned a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament, and will host a semifinal game on Saturday, March 15. MSU owns a record of 24-6-4 on the season, the second-most victories of any team in the country. The Spartans are No. 2 in both the human polls as well as the Pairwise Rankings, which guides the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The NCAA Selection Show is held on Sunday, March 23.
