
Nightingale To Serve On Team USA Staff For Upcoming World Championships

East Lansing, Mich. -- USA Hockey has announced that Michigan State head coach Adam Nightingale (Cheboygan,Mich.) will serve as an assistant coach for the upcoming IIHF World Championships, which will be held in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden, May 9-25, 2025.

Nightingale has supported several national teams at different levels in international competition. During his tenure as the head coach of the US National Team Development Program, he guided Team USA to a silver medal at the U18 World Championships in 2022 and was an assistant coach for the bronze medal-winning 2021 U.S. Men's World Championship Team.  Previously, he was the video coach for the U.S. Men's National Team three consecutive years (2017-19), including for the bronze medal-winning 2018 squad. He was also the video coach for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team.

Team USA will compete against host Denmark, along with Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway, and Switzerland in Group B in the preliminary round at Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. Group A, which will play its preliminary round games at Globe Arena in Stockholm, is comprised of host Sweden, along with Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Latvia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Team USA, under head coach Ryan Warsofsky (San Jose Sharks), will play a pre-tournament game against Germany on Sunday, May 4 in Dusseldorf, Germany before the tournament round-robin begins on Friday, May 9. NHL Network will carry the entirety of Team USA's games throughout the tournament, and a full schedule can be found at USAHockey.orgÂ

At the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia, the U.S. finished in fifth place and had a 5-0-1-2 record in its eight games. Sophomore Trey Augustine was on the squad a year ago, where he posted a 1.37 GAA and .923 save percentage in three appearances.Â
