Men’s Golf Tied for Sixth Place at Big Ten Championships

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 1-over par 281 and is tied for sixth place among 18 teams after the first day of play at the Big Ten Championships, being played at the Baltimore Country Club in Timonium, Md.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament, being played on the par-70, 7,240-yard course just outside of Baltimore, continues on Saturday, April 26.
Illinois leads the 18-team field at 10-under par 270, seven shots ahead of second-place Indiana (3-under par 277). UCLA, No. 12 nationally, is in third place at 2-under par 278, while Oregon (No. 36) is in fourth place at 1-under par 279 and Maryland is fifth at even-par 280.
The Spartans are tied for sixth place at 1-over par 281 with Minnesota.
Leading the Spartans is junior Caleb Bond, who is tied for fourth place individually at 3-under par 67 and is four shots off the individual lead. Bond recorded three birdies and 15 pars in his opening round, playing the back nine in 2-under par.
Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili is tied for 22nd place at even-par 70, completing his opening 18 holes with two birdies and 14 pars. Pinili played his final eight holes in 1-under par, with a birdie on the par-4, 384-yard 16th hole.
Sophomore Lucas Acevedo tied for 29th place at 1-over par 71, finishing his opening round with four birdies and nine pars. He played the back nine at even-par 35, with three birdies, three bogies and three pars.
Freshmen Julian Menser and Drew Miller tied for 58th place with rounds of 3-over par 73, respectively. Menser opened his round with a birdie on the par-4, 424-yard first hole before following up with a pair of bogies but settled down with pars on 13 of the next 15 holes. Miller played the front in 3-over par but recovered on the back nine with a birdie and eight pars.
