Rowing Finishes Second To IU At Dale England Cup

Michigan State finished second in the Dale England Cup at Indiana on Saturday morning in Bloomington, capturing 27 points in the NCAA boats. The 17th ranked Hoosiers took the Cup with 54 points, earning race wins in all three NCAA boats, and Notre Dame took third.
The varsity eight was in contact with the host crew at the finish, clocked in 7:31.28 to 7:26.70 for IU. MSU's top boat has been incredibly competitive and closing margins over the first weeks of the season and is challenging ranked crews each time out. The third varsity eight/novice eight also took second place (8:05.0) in its race, open water behind Notre Dame (7:44.6) and nearly 30 seconds ahead of the Hoosiers at the finish. The fourth varsity eight/second novice won its race by an 11-second margin over Notre Dame (8:25.0-8:36.1), and 23 seconds ahead of IU,
MSU's second varsity (7:47.47) was a length behind the Irish (7:42.33) to take third, with Indiana crossing the line in 7:36.70. The Spartan varsity four was about three seats behind second-place Notre Dame (8:26.2-8:30.4), with IU taking the win in 8:213. THe second four race was won by Notre Dame handily (8:38.4) with IU (8:53.5) and Michigan State taking third (9:10.9).
The Spartans will race for a third consecutive weekend when it heads to Sprints in Worcester, Mass. next weekend. Twenty-six crews will be on site, with heats leading directly into event finals at the full-day regatta.
