
Spartans in Ninth Place at NCAA Tallahassee Regional

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 4-over par 292 in the opening round and is ninth place among 14 teams after the first day of play at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, being played at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues on Tuesday, May 13.
The Spartans are making their fourth-straight appearance in an NCAA Regional and the eighth in the last nine years. Michigan State is seeded No. 10 in the 14-team field.
Host Florida State fired a 14-under par 274 and leads the field by seven shots. Notre Dame is in second place 7-under par 281, with Ole Miss in third at 6-under par 282 and New Mexico and Augusta University are tied for fourth place at 3-under par 285.
MSU is two shots behind Northwestern and Furman, tied for seventh place at 2-over par 290, and six behind sixth-place Georgia (2-under par 286).
Junior Caleb Bond fired a 2-under par 70 and leads the Spartans, tied for 11th place. He finished his round with three birdies and 14 pars.
A trio of golfers – sophomore Lorenzo Pinili and freshmen Julian Menser and Drew Miller – are tied for 40th place with scores of 2-over par 74.
Starting on the 10th hole, Pinili struggled on the back nine at 3-over par 36 before finishing the front with a pair of birdies at 1-under par. Menser finished his round with three birdies and 11 pars, while Miller closed with three birdies and 10 pars.
Sophomore Lucas Acevedo is tied for 58th place at 4-over par 76.
