•  Behind Ohio State (10) and Michigan (9), Michigan State is the only other school with multiple Big Ten rowing championships, capturing titles in 2005, 2008, and 2009.  MSU's run of four straight varsity eight titles (2008-2011) is second to only Ohio State's six straight from 2013-2018. Â
•  Head Coach Stacey Rippetoe is in her second season at the helm of the Spartan program.  She previously spent eight seasons on the Michigan State rowing staff (2000-08) and had a hand in recruiting each of MSU's Big Ten championship teams during her tenure.  Assistant coaches Nicole Marek, Annie Cantu and Victoria Mills each rowed for the Spartans as undergraduates. Â
•  The Big Ten is represented by seven schools in this week's Pocock CRCA National poll - No. 2 Washington, No. 7 Rutgers, No. 10 Michigan, No. 16 Indiana, No. 17 Ohio State, No. 23 Southern California, and No. 25 UCLA.  MSU has earned race wins over both the Women of Troy and the Bruins this season (at the Big Ten Invitational).Â
•  Three of the five weekends of regular-season action has seen MSU at large-scale regattas lining up six or seven across.  The Spartans had one dual race at Eastern Michigan, and raced Indiana and Notre Dame at the Dale England Cup. Â
•  The Spartans will have entries in six of seven boat classes:  all four eights and first and second fours.  Racing begins on Saturday morning at 8:02 am for the varsity eights, and goes through 10:12 with the fourth varsity eight. Racing will be held on 10-minute centers on, with two heats in each boat class in the Saturday semifinals.  The top three boats in each semifinal heat will advance to Sunday's Grand Final, while the remainder will compete in Petite Finals. A revised schedule (above) has been released for Saturday racing, so check MSU's twitter account or here at MSUSpartans.com for the most up-to-date schedule. Â
•  The Spartan roster boasts three grad students/fifth-years, eight seniors,16 juniors, seven sophomores and 22 freshmen. Â
•  MSU's rapidly-improving varsity eight reached the grand finals of IRA Sprints in its most recent outing, and finished in the top four in each of its races at the Big Ten Invitational (April 18-19).  The varsity eight consists of one fifth-year, three seniors, four juniors, and a sophomore stroke.  Likewise, the second varsity eight is also upperclass-laden, with one each grad student/fifth year/senior, four juniors, and one sophomore. The varsity four has one rower from each class.  The top two eights each have senior coxswains, while the V4 is coxed by a junior. Â
•  The staff is quite pleased with the progression this season of the third and fourth eights - which both consist solely of novice rowers.  The third eight is coming off a Grand Final appearance at Sprints (fifth), behind three ranked Ivy crews and Rutgers; the fourth eight earned MSU's first-ever medal at IRA Sprints in three trips with a silver medal.
