Five Spartans Names to NABC Honors Court
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's basketball team was recognized with a Team Academic Excellence Award and five members of the team were selected to the Honor Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Thursday afternoon.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The Spartans who earned spots on the NABC Honors Court were junior center Carson Cooper (management), senior forward Frankie Fidler (interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in economics), graduate guard Jaden Akins (master's in strategic communications), junior guard Nick Sanders (accounting) and senior center Szymon Zapala ((interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in economics).
Michigan State finished the 2024-25 season with a 30-7 overall record, including a 17-3 mark in the Big Ten Conference, as the team won the regular season title for the 11th time under Head Coach Tom Izzo and was selected to the NCAA Tournament for the 27th-straight season. The Spartans advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time and finished the year ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25.
