Nina Plihal signs with Spartans for 2025-26 season.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State women's tennis head coach Kim Bruno announced the team's second signee of the 2025 class, Nina Plihal.
Plihal (pronounced plee-hall), is a native of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Austria, and she is currently the No. 6 ranked player in Austria. She has won over 30 tournaments in Austria, including eight singles and three doubles national championships in her home country.
She also has posted wins over Alina Michalitsch, who was the NCAA Division II No. 1-ranked player while at Barry University, as well as beating Mia Liepert, who recently finished her sophomore season at fellow Big Ten school Minnesota.
"We are thrilled to welcome Nina Plihal to the Spartan women's tennis family," said Coach Bruno. "Hailing from Austria as one of the top players in the country, Nina brings a dynamic and fearless game that will immediately elevate our program. Her competitive spirit and international experience make her a perfect fit for our team culture and future goals."
Plihal will be enrolling at Michigan State this fall, and she will have three years of eligibility remaining. She is the second Spartan newcomer for the incoming 2025 season, joining Anna Maria Tottrup, who signed in December.
