
Inés Sotelo Set to Represent Spain in FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball player Inés Sotelo is set to represent her native Spain in the 2025 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup in Brno, Czechia, beginning with the group phase on Saturday, July 12.
Spain will compete in Group D along with host Czechia, Argentina and Japan. Spain will take on Argentina in the first game of the group phase at 11 a.m. ET. Spain also defeated Argentina in the group phase of the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup.
The Spanish team next play against Japan on Sunday, July 13 at 11 a.m. ET. The last time the two teams met in the 2021 World Cup, Spain came out on top, 71-64. Spain will round out the group phase against Czechia on Tuesday, July 16 at 11:30 a.m. ET. Czechia defeated Spain in the 2021 U19 FIBA World Cup.
Last year, Sotelo played at the U18 Eurobasket Tournament, scoring 14 points as Spain took home the silver medal. In 2023, she was part of the bronze-medal winning team at the FIBA U18 European Championships.
Sotelo, a native of Ourense, Spain, had a stellar freshman campaign at Michigan State. The center played in all 32 games, starting eight. She averaged 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. In her first start, she tied a season high with 16 points against Purdue on Jan. 1.
