EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball's Randy Seymour was named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) First-Team All-League list.
Seymour, who will be entering his redshirt-senior season for the Spartans in 2026, was named the All-NECBL 2025 First Team's shortstop, a position he played for the Newport Gulls this summer for the second year in a row. Seymour was one of five Newport Gulls on the First-Team list, joined by Michael Gupton (DH), Matthew Bolton (OF), Finbar O'Brien (SP) and Leighton Harris (SP). The players were chosen by a vote of each of the 13 league managers.
Last week, Seymour was named the recipient of NECBL's Most Improved Player Award. The accolade is voted based upon a player's level of improvement throughout their time in the NECBL from last year to this one. Seymour was one of several Gulls named to the South Division roster at the 2025 NECBL All-Star Game.
After not hitting any home runs during the 2024 campaign in playing 34 games with Newport, Seymour smacked four homers in 36 games with the Gulls this summer.
Seymour also increased his RBI output from 20 in 2024 to 29 in 2025. The shortstop also improved his batting average by 61 points in 2025, moving from a .235 average in 2024 to hitting .296 this season. He added eight doubles.
The Spartan shortstop also played a vital role in Newport's season success, reaching the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the South Division with a 29-15 regular-season mark, before the Gulls were eliminated from the playoffs in the South Division Finals by the Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
The New England Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat college summer league that fields teams in all six New England states. Partially funded by Major League Baseball, the New England League started play in 1994 and has sent over 230 alumni to the Major Leagues with nearly 30 alumni taken in the first round of the MLB Draft.
