EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2025-26 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
The second honorees of the 2025-06 season are Coen Carr (men's basketball) and Emma Shumate (women's basketball).
A junior from Stockbridge, Georgia, Carr is an agribusiness management major who has excelled on and off the court. He has started all 20 games for the No. 7 Spartans and ranks third on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and rebounding (5.1 rpg). Over the summer, he represented Michigan State on the "B1G Life Series: Selma to Montgomery" trip.
Shumate owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and is currently working toward completing her second bachelor's degree as a sustainable parks, recreation and tourism major. She was the recipient of the Environmental Economics and Management (EEM) Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in the Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics (AFRE) Department for being the top student in her major.
A native of Dresden, Ohio, Shumate is also very active in the community. She has participated in several initiatives, including: Ele's Race, Max's Race, T1D Walk, Haven House and reading at local elementary schools. On the court, Shumate and the Spartans are 18-2 overall this season and ranked No. 13 in the AP Poll. She has played in all 20 games, including three starts, and is averaging 6.7 points per game.
